A morning at the lock
One of our carers, Lisa, sent in a lovely photo of her client Les enjoying a slice of carrot cake and a coffee on a sunny morning at Mapledurham lock. "The staff at the lock always give a warm welcome," she said. "They bring out snacks on a tray, and Les watches the boats navigate carefully through the lock. There's always lots happening — Les has incredible eyesight, so he doesn't miss anything. I always enjoy the trips out, and I hope they continue for a very long time." Some ideas for trips out
- Mapledurham House & Watermill — an Elizabethan stately home in South Oxfordshire, a Grade I listed building with a fascinating history of priest holes and secret Masses, and the setting for many films.
- Greys Court — a Tudor country house and gardens near Henley-on-Thames, now owned by the National Trust, with an estate mentioned in the Domesday Book.
- Basildon Park — a country house near Goring and Streatley, built in 1776, which served as a convalescent hospital and later a barracks and POW camp.
- Henley River & Rowing Museum — celebrating the river, the sport of rowing and the town of Henley, with a much-loved Wind in the Willows exhibition and a lovely coffee shop.
